On October 4th, Stanford University and the Elsevier Data Repository released “October 2023 data-update for ‘Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators’” with the list of “World’s Top 2% Scientists” (sixth edition). HFU two professors Lu Hongdian and Yang Wei were selected into the list considering their career impact and annual influence.

Professor Lu Hongdian, a Master tutor of HFU, is mainly engaged in the interdisciplinary research and application of safety technology and engineering, flexible intelligent materials and devices. He has hosted over 20 scientific research projects including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In addition, Professor Lu has won the Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Anhui Province twice, published over 100 academic papers, co-compiled 2 textbooks, and authorized 10 invention patents.

Professor Yang Wei, a Master tutor at the School of Energy Materials and Chemical Engineering of HFU, a winner of the Outstanding Youth Award of Anhui Province, mainly focuses on the research related to low-dimensional nanomaterials, functional polymer composite materials, and their performance evaluation. He has led over 10 scientific research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Natural Science Foundation of Anhui Province, and Key Research and Development Plan of Anhui Province. Besides, he has published over 100 academic papers in such academic periodicals as Advanced Functional Materials and Chemical Engineering Journal, which have been cited over 5,000 times in aggregation, with 5 of them as highly-cited papers by ESI. Moreover, Professor Yang has won the Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Anhui Province once, co-compiled 2 books, and authorized more than 10 invention patents.

Based on the analysis of the citation data system from the Scopus database, the list utilizes six comprehensive scores for its selection, including citation frequency, H-index, and HM indicator, to select 2% from nearly 7 million scientists of 22 fields and 176 sub-fields. As a measurement index for the long-term research performance of scientists, this list stands as a more objective and accurate reflection of their influence.
